So I have had this for about 3 weeks and it’s working as expected. Overall it works pretty good but it takes some getting used too. There are no indications of lining up the artwork but you can usually get it after working with it a few times to get the settings down. I like it for the wood engraving but the software has to upgrade to something newer than Windows 95. Although it work, it joke.

Instructions were easy to understand. And the software is sophisticated.Very light , easy to take .it is a cool little machine. Love it!

I’ve been toying with the idea of getting a laser engraver for a while, and decided to go for it, since it was a pretty reasonable price. The unit was very well packaged and arrived all set up – all you have to do is install the small protective plexiglass window. The unit is made of sturdy plastic and arrives with simple instructions and the needed software on a USB stick. The software (windows) requires the .net 3.5 framework installed in your computer, which is easy to accomplish, and if needed, there are many tutorials online…the software will initiate the download from Microsoft if needed.

The software is very basic and super simple to figure out. The software controls are very intuitive and responsive. The “depth adjustment” control is likely the one you’ll be tweaking the most – it essentially determines the actual strength of the laser. It took me about an hour to get the hang of what “strength” to use to get the best results on various materials – for example, too high of a depth adjustment on something thin (like cardboard) will burn through it versus rendering an image. I was able to get some really clean engravings on various materials in both black and white and in gray-scale. For best results, I edited and cleaned up my images in Photoshop – you could easily use any other image editing program…before importing the image.

The instructions warn not to run the laser for longer than 30 minutes at a time due to heat. I paused my engraving every 10 minutes and allowed a minute to cool. I also used a small desk fan to cool the unit, in addition to the included fan (which does not seem to move much air). The engraving speed is slow, as expected. I engraved 6 different images, and after I found my groove with the settings, I got really good results.

This little machine is really fun, and I am sure I’ll find many uses for it as I explore ideas. What I really love about this thing is that, unlike many others, there is no actual enclosed bottom. You generally place items to engrave under the machine, align the engrave area and go. What I realized is that you can place the machine on top of a much larger item you’d like to engrave – which adds a ton of flexibility. Being able to place the machine on top of a larger item to engrave versus having to place an item inside of the machine opens many new doors. For example, I am building a guitar and intend on engraving various designs all over it – I’ll just place the machine onto the guitar and engrave. Move the machine to another spot and engrave again.

For the price, you can’t go wrong with this – it’s just powerful enough to do some really cool things. I may step up to a much larger unit down the road, but this is a super point of entry and a way to dabble.
One day in and I really like it. I did purchase an extended warranty – likely much less expensive than purchasing a new laser head if needed.

It took me about 5 minutes to set this up on a Mac. I purchased it to add text to leather so that is what I experimented with. Once I got the laser dot adjusted as small as I could I started using the laser.

I’ve only used it for about an hour but it worked great for each piece of leather I engraved. I’ve attached a photo of two of the pieces of leather I engraved. I was able to use any font installed on the Mac. Some fonts take longer to engrave than others. The examples in the attached photo took about 2 minutes 45 seconds for each line of text. Arial and Helvetica engraved in about 1 minute 30 seconds. Pretty fast considering I was using a USB hub. Next time I used it I’ll see if it’s faster connecting it directly.

The footprint of this engraver is fantastic at just 6 by 6 inches and is very lightweight.

    Absolutely LOVE! It!
    Works so great.

Direction don’t really help explain how to center it, so trial and error was my method.

This is a great little machine for the money. Easy to use, as long as you read the read me file first. Had some issues in the beginning. Just emailed the seller and they responded within 12 hours. Ended up, problem was with my computer. New computer solved my problems. Have had fun with creating files and expanding my business offering personalizing my products.

Excellent machine. 3W laser is strong. Easy to engrave pictures on wood for example. Packaging was extremely well, and made sure that it won’t damage during the transit.

  10. Alan D Wright

Easy setup All I had to do is to connect a USB cable to my laptop and a power cord. It comes with the driver inside the shipping box so no problem installing the driver.

So far things are working great !!! Would like to know if there is a downloadable version of the software so I can use my galaxy tablet to run the software so I can set it up by a window instead of my desktop computer because that isn’t by one. Was packaged really nicely and delivered when promised.

My first laser engraving machine and it didn’t let me down. I was worried when I received it as the shipping box was pretty light. I was under the impression this kind machine normally would be heavy and big.

After followed the manual, it was pretty easy to setup. All I had to do is to connect a USB cable to my laptop and a power cord. It comes with the driver inside the shipping box so no problem installing the driver. What’s nice was inside the usb drive, it has a step by step video to setup and install everything which is very neat for beginners like me.

With the shipping box, it came with two sample pieces of wood which you can test out. It took a while to print my first engraving (30mins) and it came out all good.

And then I used it to engrave my daughter’s storage shelve and it is AMAZING! I uploaded the end pic and you can probably do something similar. I just feel there are tons of things you can do with this engrave machine! Absolutely love it!

Got it in 1 week! I was so excited to get this little puppy up and running. Set-up was a breeze, and I was pleasantly surprised that this was Mac compatible! Took me around 10 minutes (with restart) to install the drivers and the software. Software is light, and easy to use, but I would like to see more advanced options, but hey, beggars can’t be choosers!!!

I immediately began engraving everything I could get my grubby little mitts on: Wood, my leather wallet, gram crackers, a lime, a sketch notebook, heavy brown paper. you name it. I did experience a few glitches here and there (the tracking system can go a little wonky sometimes, so make sure to do a test etch first, then the final product!!), but it looks like they are relatively easy to fix by using the directional keys on the unit to get it back to its home position, but that’s mainly because I occasionally stop a job mid-etch.

I was surprised on how powerful this little guys, but stay away from anything reflective, clear, glossy, or super porous (like bread….yeah, I tried) so metal, glass and clear acrylic are outside of its capabilities . A little bit go graphics know-how is a must, as the etching software has next to no editing capacity, but with the graphics provided, plus some creative google image searches, you can function just fine! Complex designs (or deeply etched) can take as much as 30 minutes to complete, so patience is a must, but I am pretty darned happy with this!

I highly suggest the replacement plan, as I probably worked this machine in one day what a normal person would do in several weeks, and experienced some light issues, but not deal breaking, by any means (yet??!??!?). Fun little highly functioning toy. Now I want a full blown production model. Thanks for being my Laser engraver pusher, folks…….first one is free, right?

It is a smart machine, really easy to use. The quality is great for the price. It is exactly as its described. The speedy is not so fast. Many burns take about 60 minutes or more. However, its work is really beautiful. Good quality.Love it!

After reading some reviews I was hesitant but decided to go for it anyway – and I am happy that I did it. The software is quite basic and easy to use and the laser works normally. I am using it to engrave wood and it’s taking me a couple of tentatives to get exactly what I am looking for. So, overall I think this is pretty hard to beat from a cost/benefit perspective.

  17. Brian H.

Works pretty good for a cheaper laser. I have done a lot of Ar & pistol mags with it and some painted metal also.

  18. R. Rivera

Nice for hobbyist or starters not intended for businesses if you make a ton of engravings

Arrived fast. I had trouble with the software but after three reboots it installed. Instructions are short and vague. No tips or advice. Going to be a lot of trial and error. It is addictive. Doesn’t advise on proper way to cool down the laser without losing progress. Machine is a 5 star. Shipping is a 5 star. Software is a 4, it’s on a thumb drive, tips and advice are a 2 this is going to be a lot of trial and error. No advice on power settings and material or what some buttons do in the software. Still happy with it.

Be careful with this. My first engraving went totally through the wood & into my desk. If I was to have a complaint it would be that there is no on/off switch, so you have to unplug it each time. For some reason my computer tells me the software is Malware.

I recently ordered two different lower end laser engravers, this one and a competing brand, in order to evaluate potential future purchases if having multiple machines outweighs the cost of one high end machine.
I have used the competing brand for about 20 hours, and have only been using this one for 2, but I already greatly prefer it.

The main two differences I have seen between various models are with the laser power, and the way the laser engraves. Other brands/models have a base plate that moves forward and backward, and the laser only moves left to right. The laser moving on one axis on other brands not only limits the material sizes that you can use, but also seems to introduce more inaccuracy. Precision just isn’t really the name of the game, and if you try to run an etching a second time without moving the material (which one would think would make the engraving follow the same path) produces a result that is noticeably off from the same position.

This model has an open bottom, and the laser moves on both axis. It gives you much more creative play with material size/shape, and increases the size of your engraving area by a significant amount. Since there is only one moving piece (the laser), accuracy is much improved on second passes. Fewer variables equals better results in this case. Definitely use an underlying protection that is larger if working with small objects though, as there is nothing to stop the laser from escaping if you miscalculate your build size.

This model has a much more powerful and much more quiet laser. It’s already faster to engrave than others, but the extra power can allow for lower settings, which improves speed even more.

As for the downsides with this model, I do miss the added phone app that allows you to operate competing models remotely. The app doesn’t have a ton of functionality, but it’s still a nice bonus to be able to operate other machines on battery power. I also wish they would provide the green protection acrylic for all four sides. It’s way too easy for a child to be able to stick their hand right in the operating area, causing what I would imagine would be serious injury. Removable acrylic on four sides would also greatly increase eye protection, as a lot of blue light leaks out all sides. Be aware of the danger when it comes to lack of protection on all of these small engravers.

One common downside of models I have tested is the software. Both this model and other competing ones leave some room for improvement when it comes to interface. None of them are very difficult to operate, but they still take some tinkering to figure out how everything works.

Overall, I greatly recommend this model over others. I would buy this again multiple times over, as long as it holds up to repeated use over time. The slightly higher cost is well worth the flexibility and speed gained. I wish I had tried this one first. I would have just purchased two if these instead of trying the competition.
